AUSTIN (KXAN) — Those inside two homes in southwest Austin were evacuated this morning after a contractor hit a gas line in the area.

The line caught on fire where it was hit between the two homes on the 6500 block of Needham Lane. Crews got everyone out of the homes and are working to protect the houses until the gas can be turned off, the Austin Fire Department tweeted.

By 11:12 a.m. the fire was out. AFD reported no one was hurt and the homes weren’t damaged.

In Texas, everyone is encouraged to call 811 before beginning digging projects, however, it is only mandatory for certain companies.
